In A Horned Hat And A Tiger’s Skin (2007)

05-12-2009

Story of so called “contract officers” in the Polish Army. After the Soviet Union conquered Georgia in 1921, a great number of Georgian defenders was forced to emigrate.

Marshal Pilsudski asked over 100 Georgians to join the Polish Army on the terms of a contract. Many of them married Polish women and brought their children in the spirit of the Polish and Georgian patriotism.

When the II World War began, the Georgian contract officers, and their sons from the mixed marriages, were serving at all fronts for their second homeland: they took part in the September Campaign against the two conquerors (more then ten of them were murdered in Katyn), in the Home Army and the Warsaw Uprising, in the Polish Armed Forces in the West (they fought in Tobruk and Monte Cassino), on Polish warships in the seas. They all made a memorable impression and many were awarded the highest military orders: Virtuti Militari and Cross of Valor.

THE RECONCILIATION (ZGODA) at cinemas now

Beginning of 1945, Upper Silesia, Poland. The last days of WW2. At the just liberated areas, the Communist Security Service eliminates its enemies under the pretext of punishing “national traitors.” It organizes a labour camp for Germans, Silesians and Poles, at the site of a former Nazi concentration camp, which is named “Zgoda” / “Reconciliation”. Franek, who is in love with a Polish prisoner Anna, joins the camp crew to rescue her. He doesn't know that one of the inmates is Erwin, his German friend, who, like himself, has also loved Anna for a long time. Franek joins Communists in the illusory hope of outsmarting the system.
